Asus' new ProArt Studiobook and Studiobook Pro series reinvented the 'mouse wheel'. Literally, this laptop features a jog dial that can be turned like a mouse wheel in the lower left corner of the keyboard, allowing content creators to quickly adjust media timelines or fine-tuning settings.
But you won't even have time to look down at the jog dial. The 16-inch, 4K, '3rd-generation' OLED screen with an aspect ratio of 16:10 is enough to grab the attention of users. OLED has been suffering from burn-in for a long time, but Asus explained that it minimized burn-in by using the latest technology of Samsung Display. It is a technology to prevent burn-in by measuring the amount of use of partial pixels and moving the pixels minutely at regular intervals.
A screen saver function has also been added. It turns on automatically and goes dark after 5 minutes. Asus explained that it performed better than Windows' screensaver. The screen saver and burn-in prevention functions can be turned off by the user, and if turned off, the laptop will send a warning message.
Another feature of OLED that is of interest to content producers is its rich color gamut. According to Asus, the monitor can display accurate colors even when the brightness of the monitor is dark. This is the difference from the IPS panel, which causes light leakage on a dark screen.
'Asus Dial' for fine adjustment
The studio book has an awesome panel. But what Asus wants attention is probably the Asus Dial. The Asus Dial is a physical jog dial, which plays a role in fine-tuning the timeline by turning the dial when editing video with Adobe Premiere. It is similar to Microsoft's Surface Dial. Asus worked with Adobe to support Asus Dial in Adobe products such as Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, and After Effects. All the features of the Studio Book series described above are useless unless the hardware supports them. Asus doesn't force you to choose between AMD and Intel. Pro Art Studio Book 16 OLED H5600 and Pro Art Studio Book Pro 16 OLED W5600 support up to AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. If Intel's 11th generation Tiger Lake H is suitable for content creation, you can choose Pro Art Studio Book 16 OLED H7600 or Pro Art Studio Book Pro 16 OLED W7600.
The difference between the pro and non-pro models in the Studio Book series is the GPU. The AMD-based H5600 model supports the GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, and the Intel-based H7600 model supports the GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card. These GPUs are great for content creation, but not for pros. The difference from the Studio Book 'Pro' product line is here.
The AMD-based W5600 Pro model is a combination of a Ryzen 9 5900HX processor and an Nvidia RTX A2000 graphics card. The Intel-based W7600 Pro model used a Xeon W-11955M processor and Nvidia RTX A5000 graphics card. These professional graphics cards offer GPU capabilities with Nvidia's GA104. The A5000 supports a similar number of CUDA cores as the GeForce RTX 3080, and the A2000's performance is somewhere between the GeForce RTX 3060 and GeForce RTX 3070.
In addition, the A-series GPU installed in the Pro has been certified as a driver capable of running professional applications. Performance is greatly improved when performing specific tasks such as Catiana Siemens or Coreo. Of course, this level of performance was arbitrarily classified by Nvidia, but it can be said that it is worth it for professionals. If you want to use these programs, it is appropriate to choose the Pro suite.
